KOHAT: The security operation launched following a suicide attack on Kohat Police Lines has been completed, with security forces killing eight terrorists, according to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hamid. The operation continued from the previous day after terrorists attacked the Police Lines and entered the building of the Special Branch. Security forces and police conducted a clearance operation and successfully cleared key buildings in the area. The Additional Inspector General of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) personally supervised the operation. He sustained an arm injury in a grenade attack by the terrorists last night but, after receiving medical treatment, returned to the site and continued overseeing the operation. The attack and subsequent exchange of fire left 23 people dead, including an SP, DSP, inspector and several other police personnel. According to IG Zulfiqar Hamid, Elite Force commandos, CTD personnel and security forces jointly carried out the clearance operation. He said the suicide bomber failed in his attempt to target law enforcement personnel. The KP police chief remained present at the scene throughout the operation. He said the Additional IG CTD, RPO and DPO led the security operation, while the GOC Kohat was also present. The IG also announced rewards for the police and security personnel who took part in the operation.
