Open Manhole Claims Life of 7-Year-Old Boy in Lahore
LAHORE: An open manhole claimed the life of another child in Lahore after a seven-year-old boy fell into an uncovered sewer opening near Hamza Park in the Hanjarwal area.
According to local residents, the child, identified as Hakeemullah Zaheer, had gone out into the street but never returned home. His fall into the open manhole left his family devastated.
Residents said they had contacted WASA, but after its team reportedly failed to arrive, private line workers were called to address the issue. Following the tragic incident, WASA covered seven open manholes in the street.
More than seven children have reportedly died in Lahore this year after falling into open manholes. Despite repeated incidents, several areas of the city still have missing or damaged sewer covers, raising serious concerns about public safety and municipal negligence.
