ISLAMABAD, August 14, 2026 — Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif called on President Asif Ali Zardari at Aiwan-e-Sadr on Friday and congratulated him on the occasion of Pakistan’s Independence Day.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan and Senator Sherry Rehman were also present during the meeting.

The prime minister briefed President Zardari on the historic peace agreement reached in Makkah Mukarramah among Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan.

President Zardari expressed his best wishes for the effective implementation of the trilateral peace agreement, particularly for promoting defence cooperation, regional peace and stability, and the security of the Muslim Ummah.

The president appreciated the efforts of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal and Chief of Defence Forces General Syed Asim Munir for transforming the longstanding fraternal ties among Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan into a stronger strategic partnership.

The meeting also discussed internal and external affairs, including Pakistan’s ongoing operations against terrorists of Fitna al-Hindustan and Fitna al-Khawarij. The participants paid tribute to the professionalism and capabilities of the armed forces and law enforcement agencies and reaffirmed their resolve to completely eliminate terrorism from the country.

President Zardari stressed the need for effective measures to provide relief to the people amid the prevailing regional situation, ensure uninterrupted supplies of essential commodities and make them available to the public at reasonable prices.

The president expressed hope that Pakistan’s effective diplomatic efforts for promoting regional and global peace would further strengthen the country’s standing in the international community and have positive effects on the national economy and the lives of the people.
