Islamabad: Senator Pervaiz Rashid, speaking during a session of the Senate, called for a ban on private medical treatment for the elite, saying that such a measure would help improve the condition of government hospitals. Rashid said that tragedies like the recent incident at PIMS had become a recurring reality in Pakistan. He said there should be investigations and punishments, but noted that similar inquiries had been conducted in the past and punishments had also been handed down. He demanded legislation requiring everyone—including senators, judges and bureaucrats—to receive medical treatment at government hospitals. He further argued that private treatment for the elite should be prohibited, claiming that government hospitals would significantly improve within months if senior officials and influential people were required to use them. He suggested that government employees who refused to seek treatment at public hospitals should face dismissal. Rashid also said that if people drawing government salaries were required to use public transport, the public transport system would improve as well. He praised the military's Combined Military Hospitals (CMHs), saying their services are often appreciated because military personnel, from lower-ranking staff to senior officers, receive treatment at CMHs
