Government Approves Expanded Oil & Gas Exploration in Potohar Region, Issues Development Lease for Adhi Field
Islamabad-The government has approved large-scale oil and gas exploration activities in the Potohar region, marking a significant move toward boosting domestic energy production. A development lease has been issued to three major state-linked energy companies: Pakistan Petroleum Limited, Oil and Gas Development Company Limited, and Pakistan Oilfields Limited.
According to a letter submitted by Pakistan Petroleum Limited to the Pakistan Stock Exchange, the companies have already commenced production activities under a 12-year development lease for the Adhi Field.
Under the arrangement, Pakistan Petroleum Limited serves as the operator of the field with a 39% working interest, while OGDCL holds a 50% share and POL owns the remaining 11%.
The Adhi Field covers an area of approximately 213 square kilometers, spanning the districts of Rawalpindi and Chakwal.
Officials say the approval represents an important step in strengthening Pakistan’s energy security by increasing local oil and gas output and reducing reliance on imports.
