Government should consult political parties instead of confrontation, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari
Chairman PPP has said that the responsibility of making the parliament effective is not only on the government, but also on the opposition and other political parties.
Chairman People's Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, while addressing the foundation stone laying ceremony of a 600-bed modern hospital in Larkana, has suggested the government to give priority to meaningful consultation with all political, social and provincial stakeholders instead of political confrontation and continuous conflict with different parties. In such circumstances, if the national leadership spends all its energy fighting each other, the attention and resources required to alleviate the sufferings of the people will not be provided. Regarding efforts to bring the government and the opposition to a table for electoral reforms, the PPP chairman said that electoral reforms are a fundamental and long-standing problem of the country, the current situation is unusual in the sense that this time not only the opposition but also the allies of the government have been complaining about electoral fraud and irregularities in the electoral process, even some representatives and members of the ruling party have also been raising questions about the electoral process. He said that he has contacted the leaders of the opposition in the Senate and the National Assembly through his delegations and requested them to include their full representatives in the Election Reforms Committee. He said that PTI has been taking a position on some issues that the founder PTI should be met or his release ensured, but now the founder PTI has given full authority to the opposition leaders in the Senate and the National Assembly, so the leadership in these positions should decide to ensure the party's representation in the Election Reforms Committee. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that if Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf refrains from becoming a part of the Electoral Reforms Committee despite all efforts and invitations, then at least it has to consider presenting its concerns and complaints to the public regarding rigging in the upcoming election process. He said that the responsibility of making Parliament effective is not only on the government but on all political parties including the opposition. If the opposition refuses to participate in various parliamentary forums including the Finance Committee, Judicial Commission and now the Electoral Reforms Committee, then it should review its role by criticizing the weakness of the Parliament. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said regarding Governor's rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa that the principle position of People's Party is that removal of any elected government is never an ideal situation and clarified that Pakistan People's Party will never want the democratic mandate of any party to be damaged. He further said that terrorism is a red line for Pakistan People's Party, terming terrorism as a mere excuse is not only denying the ground realities but also ignores the sacrifices of Pakistani citizens and security personnel who have laid down their lives in the war against terrorism. Chairman PPP once again urged the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and the federal government not to block the way of dialogue, if a consensus is reached between the federal government and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf on a joint strategy against terrorism and an agreement is reached in this regard, then he himself will be the first to demand that governor's rule be abolished from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
