OGDCL Begins Gas Production from Sahto-1 Well in Khairpur
**ISLAMABAD:** In a major boost to Pakistan’s energy sector, the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has officially commenced gas production from its Sahto-1 exploratory well, located in the Khairpur district of Sindh province.
According to a company statement, the well is currently producing **6 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd)** of gas during its initial phase. Efforts are already underway to expand and enhance its production capacity further.
To ensure immediate supply to the national grid, OGDCL has laid a 5-kilometer-long flow line, connecting the well to the Sinjhoro processing plant. After undergoing necessary processing at the plant, the gas is being injected into the network of Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGC).
An OGDCL spokesperson highlighted the significance of the development, stating:
> "The commencement of production from Sahto-1 marks a crucial milestone toward optimizing the utilization of indigenous hydrocarbon resources. This project will help reduce Pakistan's reliance on expensive imported fuel and significantly strengthen the country's overall energy security."
