Pakistan, India Exchange Prisoner Lists Under 2008 Consular Agreement
Islamabad-Biannual exchange carried out through respective high commissions as part of a bilateral mechanism to facilitate consular access and humanitarian cooperation.
Pakistan and India on Tuesday exchanged lists of prisoners held in each other's custody under the 2008 Agreement on Consular Access, the Foreign Office said.
According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, the lists were handed over to the respective high commissions in Islamabad and New Delhi as part of the agreement's biannual exchange mechanism.
The agreement, signed in 2008, requires both countries to exchange updated lists of civilian prisoners and fishermen in custody twice a year. The initiative aims to facilitate consular access, enhance transparency, and assist in verifying the status of detained nationals.
The Foreign Office said the exchange reflects the implementation of the bilateral agreement, which serves as an important humanitarian measure for addressing consular matters and the welfare of prisoners held in each other's custody.
