PTI Wins Major Relief in AJK: Candidates Can Contest on Bat Symbol
Muzaffarabad: In a significant victory for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the High Court of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has directed the Election Commission to register PTI as a political party, allowing its candidates to contest elections on the party's traditional bat symbol.
The ruling was issued by a larger bench headed by Chief Justice Shahid Bahar. The petition had been filed by AJK PTI President and former Prime Minister Abdul Qayyum Niazi, who challenged the Election Commission's decision to cancel the party's registration.
Following the court's decision, PTI candidates in AJK will now be eligible to participate in elections under the party banner and election symbol.
Earlier, the AJK Election Commission had revoked PTI's political registration, prompting the party to seek legal relief through the courts. The larger bench, while hearing the case, also issued notices to the Election Commission and the AJK government, seeking detailed explanations regarding the matter.
