Islamabad (S Awan) Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman and delegations meeting at the Prime Minister House has come out. The government is ready to give targeted subsidy instead of flat subsidy on petroleum products. So petroleum products can be cheaper by 30 to 40 rupees for the targeted people.

According to sources, targeted subsidy or flat subsidy remained the cause of disagreement between Jamaat-e-Islami and the government. The government remained adamant about targeted subsidies as per the IMF guidelines and took the position that flat subsidies could put the IMF program at risk. Both the rich and the poor benefit from the fleet subsidy. The government is all set to increase the number of consumers on petrol by 127 million. The government can include up to five million more consumers in the subsidy program. For targeted subsidy, efficient bicycles and more old models of vehicles can be included in the scheme. On the other hand, Jamaat-e-Islami said that the country's economy runs on diesel and there is no subsidy on it. If the farmer is affected by not giving subsidy to the diesel sector, then the whole economy is affected. If the working of the technical committees of the government and Jamaat-e-Islami proceeds with this consensus, then petroleum products can be cheaper by 30 to 40 rupees for the targeted people.

As a result of Jamaat-e-Islami's pressure and negotiations, the price of diesel produced in the country has already been set at Rs 32 a liter by separating it from the international rate.
