Islamabad (S Awan) Electricity load-shedding started before the regular start of winter, while there is a fear of increase in electricity load-shedding with further decrease in temperature. According to the sources, the Power Division has informed the Petroleum Division about the need to supply ten cargoes of RLNG during winter to meet the demand of electricity.

Sources say that the power division will require ten cargoes of RLNG to meet the power requirements in winter. In this regard, the Petroleum Division has been requested to make timely arrangements for winter by informing the gas requirements.

According to sources, seven cargoes of RLNG were procured to meet the needs of the Power Division during summers as well, however availability of gas for power generation in winters has become a critical issue.

Sources have expressed fear that if the required gas cannot be arranged, then the load shedding period may increase due to the impact of electricity generation. Keeping the balance between demand and generation of electricity will also be a major challenge for the power sector as the cold weather intensifies.

The purpose of communication of gas requirements by Power Division to Petroleum Division is to ensure availability of fuel required for power generation in winter. However, more details about the final arrangements regarding supply of ten RLNG cargoes and availability of gas are yet to emerge.
