ISLAMABAD (S. Awan) The sale of fake and illegal drugs has been revealed in the markets of Karachi, the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has issued a rapid alert regarding 9 fake and illegal drugs and directed immediate action.

According to Drap, four fake mouthwashes, sprays used in the treatment of children's eye diseases, eye drops and fake creams related to skin and ear diseases have been seized from the markets of Karachi. Addresses of LC Pharma and New Herbal Care Karachi are listed on the fake medicines.

According to Drape Alert, Drug Testing Laboratory Sindh has declared the seized drug samples as fake. Laboratory tests could not confirm the presence of the desired salt in the samples of these medicines.

Among the counterfeit products Drape has identified are Baby Spray, Tobramycin Ophthalmic Solution, Total Care, Danzicor, Anti-Plaque and Happy Tooth Kids Mouthwash.

Similarly, batch number 002 of Pain Color Vital Air Cream used for ear pain, Baby Care Air Cream and Magic Lotion used to treat skin diseases has also been declared fake.

Drap has warned that the quality and efficacy of these substandard and fake medicines are unclear, and their use can prove dangerous to human health.

The authority has directed to immediately seize these fake medicines from the markets of Karachi and stop their sale. DRAP has also called for urgent measures to prevent fake medicines.

DRAP has directed all distributors and medical stores to immediately inform the authority about the presence or sale of the said fake drugs to protect the public from their ill effects.
