Islamabad, June 23, 2026: Pakistan and Russia held the 12th meeting of their Joint Working Group on Countering International Terrorism in Islamabad on Monday, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation against terrorism and addressing emerging regional security challenges. The meeting was co-chaired by Muhammad Khalid Khan Jamali and Dmitry Lyubinsky. According to officials, the two sides held detailed discussions on regional terrorist threats, with particular focus on terrorism emanating from Afghanistan and the risks it poses to neighboring countries and broader regional stability. The delegations also reviewed the current state of Pakistan-Russia cooperation in the field of counterterrorism and exchanged views on ways to further enhance collaboration. Both sides identified opportunities to deepen engagement at regional and international platforms, particularly within the framework of the United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. The meeting underscored the shared commitment of Pakistan and Russia to combating terrorism and promoting peace, security, and stability in the region through coordinated bilateral and multilateral efforts.
