ISLAMABAD: Sindh Governor Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi on Thursday visited the Rwanda High Commission in Islamabad and held talks with Rwandan High Commissioner Fatou Harerimana on ways to strengthen bilateral trade, investment and business cooperation.

The governor was received by High Commissioner Harerimana during the visit, which was held on a reciprocal basis following the Rwandan envoy’s visit to the Governor House in Karachi in April 2026.

The meeting highlighted growing political and diplomatic engagement between Pakistan and Rwanda, with particular emphasis on strengthening cooperation at the provincial level.

During a tête-à-tête, the two sides discussed opportunities to enhance Rwanda-Pakistan relations, particularly in trade, investment, business linkages and diplomatic engagement.

The potential role of the Sindh government in facilitating stronger commercial ties between Sindh and Rwanda was also discussed.

Both sides stressed the need to strengthen private-sector linkages and create greater opportunities for businesses from the two countries to explore new markets, establish partnerships and pursue investment opportunities.

The strategic importance of Karachi as Pakistan’s principal commercial and maritime gateway also came under discussion.

The port city plays an important role in Rwanda’s trade interests by facilitating the movement of Pakistani products to Rwanda, including rice, pharmaceutical products and medical and surgical equipment.

At the same time, Karachi serves as an important maritime entry point for Rwandan tea destined for the Pakistani market.

The two sides noted that enhanced cooperation with the Sindh government could help improve trade facilitation, logistics, shipping connectivity and private-sector engagement, thereby strengthening the efficiency and competitiveness of bilateral commerce.

The engagement also comes ahead of the Rwanda-Pakistan Business Forum scheduled to be held in Kigali in September 2026.

The forum is expected to bring together businesses, investors and institutional stakeholders from both countries to explore investment opportunities, establish partnerships and promote bilateral trade.

The visit by Governor Hashmi was described as a positive step towards strengthening Rwanda-Sindh economic and commercial relations and translating existing political goodwill into practical cooperation in trade, investment, logistics, pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, rice, tea and other areas of mutual interest.
