Hanif Abbasi Rejects Auditor General's Report
, Claims Pakistan Railways Posted Profit
Islamabad-Federal Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi has rejected the Auditor General's report on Pakistan Railways, calling it misleading and rejecting claims that the department suffered losses during his tenure.
Speaking to a private television channel, the minister said the audit report had presented an inaccurate picture of the railway's financial performance, misleading the public about the organization's financial health.
Abbasi maintained that Pakistan Railways recorded a profit of approximately Rs3.5 billion in 2024, dismissing assertions that the department incurred a 19 percent loss. He also questioned claims that the railway's operating costs had increased during the 2024–25 fiscal year, arguing that the available financial data did not support allegations of worsening losses.
Highlighting the department's recent performance, the minister said Pakistan Railways generated Rs115 billion in revenue during the 2025–26 fiscal year. He added that the figures demonstrated an improving financial position under the current administration and reflected the government's efforts to strengthen the national railway system.
